Which door do you need

Most people do not go to the emergency room too often. They go too late. If you are weighing it up and cannot decide, that uncertainty is itself information — being assessed and sent home reassured is a good outcome.

Three questions settle most of it: whether someone is struggling to breathe or showing signs of a stroke or heart attack, which is a 911 call; whether this is sudden, severe or getting worse, which is an emergency room; or whether it is something you would take to your own doctor on a Tuesday morning, which a clinic can handle.

Struggling to breathe, or signs of a stroke or heart attack.

Sudden, severe, or getting worse while you watch it.

Why the answer usually arrives before you leave

Both emergency rooms have CT, X-ray and a full laboratory in the building, staffed around the clock. That is the difference between finding out tonight and finding out later in the week.

Ultrasound is called in from a mobile service — often during the visit, sometimes the next day.

Our emergency rooms are freestanding, which means they are emergency departments without an inpatient hospital attached. If you need to be admitted, we treat and stabilise you here and arrange the transfer. That is the design rather than a limitation: there is no inpatient census competing for the team's attention, and everyone in the building is an emergency patient.

Straight answers about cost

Cost fear is the objection nobody says out loud, and it is the one that does the most damage — people sit at home with cardiac symptoms doing arithmetic.

So, plainly: ability to pay is not a barrier to assessment and access to care in our emergency rooms, and by law. An emergency visit bills at emergency rates, which are not clinic rates, and we would rather tell you that now than have you find out afterwards. If cost is the obstacle, say so when you arrive.

Children

We are not a pediatric emergency room, and we treat children every day. Both halves of that sentence matter: our emergency rooms are equipped and staffed to assess and stabilise a child, and where a child needs a specialist level of paediatric care we arrange the transfer rather than keep them.

For everything that is not an emergency, Mercy Grace Pediatrics & Primary Care in Gilbert is built for children specifically.

In partnership with HealthPass

The bill is the part people dread. This is what we did about it.

HealthPass is a healthcare membership — not insurance. It pays the copays, deductibles and coinsurance your insurer assigns for eligible visits to our emergency rooms, and it applies to visits you have already had, not only the ones ahead of you.

Visits already behind you

An eligible visit you have already made can be paid for. That is unusual, and it is the part worth knowing if a bill has already arrived.

The visit in front of you

Come in first and sort the money afterwards. Nobody is turned away, and no cost question is settled at the door.

And the ones after that

Membership keeps paying those costs for future eligible visits here, so the next emergency is not also a calculation.

HealthPass is a separate company and it is not insurance. It is a membership that works alongside the insurance you already have — never in place of it. You do not need it to be seen here; our doors work the same either way. What it covers, the price and the sign-up all live on their own site, because the product should make its own claims.

About your bill, before you worry about it

Ability to pay is not a barrier to assessment and access to care in our emergency rooms — by law. An emergency visit bills at emergency rates, which are not clinic rates, and we would rather tell you that now than have you find out afterwards.

If anything you receive after a visit is unclear, call the facility you were seen at before you pay it. They hold the record of your visit, and they would rather explain a statement than have you pay something you do not owe.
